1969 SC/RAMBLER
Matt Wilson's
1969 SC/RAMBLER
Very few of the big three could match a well tuned 390 cu. in. engine when stuffed in a light weight Rambler Scrambler. | |
American Motors was late in joining the performance race, but some of its entries were among the wildest. A special rogue called the Hurst SC/Rambler was built in 1969 featuring two flamboyant red, white and blue paint schemes, a bizarre hood scoop, the 390 4-speed V-8, and a stiffer frame (needed to withstand the engine's massive torque). A dead-stock SC/Rambler could do the quarter mile in the low 14's but with a few simple bolt on modifications they would run low 12's. To keep weight down AMC offered no options on the SC/Rambler except an AM radio. 1,512 were made (1,188 were (A) paint scheme and 324 (B) paint scheme) and sold for a dirt-cheap price of $2,998, an example in good condition is worth over $18,000 today (if you can find one). |
