   1969 SC/RAMBLER

1969 Hurst SC/Rambler (B) Scheme

(words as printed in American Motoring Volume 28, Issue 2 – March/April 2004)

This SC/Rambler was originally sold from Capitol One Motors in Connellsville, PA. The • SC/Rambler stayed in the local town for two years, then it was traded back to Capitol One Motors dealership. The SC/Rambler was then sold to a local man for $1,500.00.  He was the second owner and only lived five miles down the road in Uniontown, PA.

I am the third owner, purchasing the car thirty-one years later. This car, still in Uniontown, PA, is still terrorizing the same streets for over thirty years.  This (B) paint scheme, SC/Rambler, has the stripe on top of the car from the (A) scheme. The second owner and the local people, familiar with the car, tell me that the hood graphics were on the car since it was originally sold, but the second owner had the stripe painted on the roof and the trunk when he purchased the car. Someone at AMC must have been playing around to see what the different hood graphics would look like.

This particular SC/Rambler had those few simple bolt-on modifications done to it back in the 1970’s that really made it fly. My favorite of which is the cross ram intake, part # AM4486228.

My SC/Rambler ran a quarter of a mile; best time at 12.61 with stock 3 54’s, rear end gears and was an eight-time class winner at Keystone Dragway. it is a nice unrestored SC/Rambler. The front fenders were replaced and the car was re-painted in 1979.

I just had the engine rebuilt in 2003. It was built to be a real strong street engine that could handle the cross ram intake and still run on pump gas.  It runs real well and super strong. It has more power than when it ran 12.61, so I am looking forward to going to the Keystone Dragway next year and getting a time.

I feel the 1969 SC/Rambler is the funnest car a man could own, as everything about the car is shocking! The price, the performance, and the odd looks.
