PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The past year has been an exciting one for the Western PA Region, as we found ourselves trying a number of new things.  The Car Cruise at Legion Keener Park was one of those new ideas that did a lot for the Club.  Having an event open to all car hobbyists casts us in a different light, and demonstrates that we embrace not only the “old car” hobby, but also anyone who has an interest in the automobile.  As perspectives change, we, too, must adjust our thinking in order to insure the continued viability of our organization.  I, for one, would like to see us expand the number of cruises held during the upcoming season in the hopes that we can attract new members to the Region.   If you have any ideas along these lines, please be sure to pass them along.

The Swap Meet is another event that I hope will grow in time.  I was very pleased to see how well we did last year, and how much interest and support we received from the vendors.  As I’ve mentioned in the past, many of the vendors have volunteered to help us promote the event, and to do what ever they can to help us succeed.  The County Fairgrounds is a terrific venue for this event, with plenty of room to expand.  I can only hope that the momentum established last year will continue, and our Swap Meet will become a premier event in this area.

We had several interesting trips this past year, and I hope that we continue to do so this season.  There are numerous “non-region” events held in our area, some on a weekly basis, and some on a monthly basis.  We should make every effort to participate in these events, and to use those opportunities to promote the Region as well as the events that we sponsor during the year.  I would like to see us keep our Members better informed about these events, so that our participation in them can increase.

Speaking of participation, the beginning of a new year creates a significant challenge to the Region in terms of getting enough support from our members to continue those events which have become annual “traditions” for us.  It seems increasingly more difficult to motivate our members to volunteer to chair these events, such as our “Kick-off” party and annual picnic.  I’m not sure what the answer is, but one should not adopt the attitude of “let someone else do it”.  When the call goes out for help, please lend a hand.  If you don’t feel you want to head up an event, at least indicate that you would be willing to help.  Remember, this is your club, too, and your help is not only needed, but also appreciated.
