FROM THE EDITOR
By Dick McKelvey

This month we traveled to Dublin , Ohio to take part in the 25th annual Arthritis Foundation Cruise and Show. It was a great trip and we joined over 1500 classic and antique vehicles from 20 states in a two day event. In all we had 6 local couples at the event. Four cars, the Schifano, the Caruso, the Shaulis (LHR), and the Blank (a friend and prospective member) cars all won trophies. This is two years in a row for Charlie and Ron Shaulis Only the McKelvey Oldsmobile came back empty. It was a good thing the Vrables brought along their GMC pickup because the trophies won by the Schifano, Shaulis and Caruso cars were six foot tall. Along with the car events there was entertainment both nights and we had a couple of great evenings sitting out with our munchies and watching the performances.

Speaking of award winners, congratulations to a couple of our members who were winners in the Latrobe 4 of July parade. Ken Bankovich won with his 1930 Ford Model A Coupe and Ralph Shearer with his 1965 Corvair Convertible. Ralph, I have to look at that Corvair because I didn’t know you redid it as a street rod

Howard Finney also reports that he made the big move at this year’s Grand National Meet at Gilmore in Hickory Corners, Michigan. We now have a Grand National Senior Car in the WPR. Congratulations Howard!

My cars are decent looking drivers and probably never would become trophy contenders but I made a resolution to see Charlie and see how it is done. Once I accomplish that my next job is to get Nancy cranked up to do the detailing because I am afraid I just don’t have the work ethic needed to have a trophy winner.

Read over our WPR Calendar and pick your events because it is loaded and it sure will give you the opportunity to hit the road and have a great time. Remember the Fun Cruise (7/20), Idlewild Old Fashioned Days (7/25), WPR Picnic (7/29), Weatherwood (8/9) and Progressive Dinner (8/12) as well as others. If you really want to go for a ride join us on the Macungie trip (8/3 – 8/5).
