REMEMBERING By Fred Nicholls I enjoyed the program at the November meeting put on by Tom Milligan. It consisted of items from our Region over its years. I guess being a packrat that I still have many of these items, and now I know where to get rid of these collectibles. Looking back I wonder how many of our younger members know much about the history of WPR. Most of you know George French, who was a founding member of the Region. Our next President was Charles Davis in 1958 and again in 1970. Both he and George were active in National AACA judging. In 1959 C. H. (Slim) Fahrr lead the Region, a well known Garage owner from Greensburg. Everybody knows Morris (Butch) Kunkle, Who served as a National AACA President and as our Region President in 1960. In 1961 Herb Miller was our President and he is still a member of our Region. Art Brundage followed as our President in 1962, and left our area for Michigan, where he was associated with GM. Galen Fike was next in 1963 and he now lives in Florida. Boyd Muir followed in 1964 and Earl Muir was our next leader in 1965. Robert Cable led the Region in 1966. We all remember Foster Fike, our President in 1967, who was followed by Paul Bellin in 1968 and again in 1973. I was President in 1969 and again in 1972, followed by Bill Salavatora in 1971. I am sure we know our Presidents after those years. BUT, how many members remember our six chapters: Coke Center, Evergreen, Pittsburgh Golden Triangle, Roof Garden and Shenango. And do you remember our Southernmost Chapter? If you don’t recall this one check your March – April issue of Antique Automobile for a picture of our members receiving our Charter from National President, Howard Scotland. The members are Boyd Muir, Earl Muir, Frank Flowers, Alan Terex and myself and the issue was March – April 1990. The picture was taken at the AACA 1989 S. E. Division National Fall Meet at Port Lucie, Florida. That was a long time ago. 11 |
